It’s time to crown a new batch of Emmy winners, and this year’s Creative Arts Emmys gave us some major guest actor wins!
On Sunday, Sept. 8, four standout performers were honored for their incredible guest roles in top TV shows like The Bear, Shōgun, and Mr. & Mrs. Smith.
Here’s a breakdown of who took home trophies and what they had to say about their big wins:
Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series: Néstor Carbonell
Néstor Carbonell won his first Emmy for his role as Vasco Rodrigues in FX’s Shōgun, a historical drama about power, ambition, and unexpected alliances.
Carbonell gave a heartfelt speech, immediately thanking his wife, Shannon, for stepping back from her own acting career to support their family. “I share this with you, honey,” he said on stage, clearly moved by the honor.
He also shared how surreal the moment was for him, as his career came full circle. He explained:
“My first job in television was as a guest star on Law & Order, and after this, I’m flying out to direct an episode of that same show.”
Carbonell’s appreciation for his career and the people who supported him was on full display.

Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series: Jon Bernthal
Jon Bernthal, beloved for his role as Mikey Berzatto in FX/Hulu’s The Bear, took home the award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series. His emotional performance in the “Fishes” episode, showing the complicated family dynamics during a chaotic holiday dinner, earned him his first Emmy win.
Unfortunately, Bernthal wasn’t there to accept the award in person, but his win still made waves. His portrayal of Mikey is one of the most memorable performances in recent TV.

Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series: Jamie Lee Curtis
Jamie Lee Curtis wowed audiences as Donna Berzatto in The Bear and earned her spot as Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series. Her character, Donna, is the troubled matriarch of the Berzatto family, struggling with alcoholism and mental health issues.
The “Fishes” episode really captured the complexity of her character, and Curtis’s performance was nothing short of powerful.
On stage, Curtis reflected on her journey: “It’s astonishing that I got this opportunity at this point in my life,” she said. She also shared a touching message: “Hurt people hurt people, but helped people help people. That’s the story of The Bear.”
In the press room, Curtis looked back on her career, including her well-known stint selling Activia yogurt.
“I’ve been an actor since I was 19, and now, at 65, to do work with such depth and complexity… it’s been the thrill of my creative life.”
While she downplayed the idea of ever achieving EGOT status, Curtis joked about her inability to stay up late. “I’m just not sure I would do well in theater — you go to bed so late!”
