In an interview for Vogue’s October issue, published on September 5, the “Born This Way” singer revealed that the proposal actually happened back in April—months before she made it official after performing at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics’ opening ceremony.

According to Gaga, the proposal took place after a day of rock climbing. Soon after, fans began to speculate about her engagement when she was seen sporting a stunning eight-carat, oval-cut ring on her left hand.

In her candid chat with Vogue, Gaga admitted she found something she didn’t even know she was missing. “The missing piece in my life was having real love,” she said, reflecting on her relationship with Polansky.
Though Gaga wasn’t actively looking for a future husband, her mother, Cynthia Germanotta, had a hunch when she first met Polansky at a philanthropic event. Gaga recalled:
“My mom met him and she said to me, ‘I think I just met your husband. I wasn’t ready to meet my husband! But I could never have imagined she’d found the perfect person for me.”

The couple didn’t officially meet until 2019, at a birthday party for Napster co-founder Sean Parker.
Gaga was hoping Polansky would be there, and when they finally connected, the two ended up talking for three hours.
Polansky was immediately struck by Gaga’s warmth and curiosity about his life, and from there, the relationship blossomed.

Shortly after their first date, the COVID-19 pandemic hit, and the couple quarantined together at Gaga’s Malibu home. During that time, they enjoyed simple pleasures—taking walks, making coffee, and reading together.
Polansky said that while the pandemic was tough for many, Gaga adjusted well due to her fame and hectic lifestyle. “She’s used to being isolated,” he shared, adding that the slower pace was good for her.
