DEPARTMENT OF PHILOSOPHY
  About the Department:

In 1962, Kalimpong College established the Department of Philosophy. It has demonstrated consistent improvement in academic achievement, increased participation and impact in college activities in general, and a constructive and motivating influence on society in general over the years. The Department has attempted to highlight these issues and empower the students, as philosophy is a critical reflective, normative, and one of the most prioritised topics in the world. The syllabus has grown throughout time to include philosophy from all around the world, including Indian philosophy, Western philosophy, and the most recent philosophical developments. As a result, the students have gained a more global understanding and respect of philosophy. Having a bachelor's degree in philosophy allows you to pursue more opportunities.

Dr. Ananda Pramanik (Associate Professor), Dr. Gauranga Das (Assistant Professor), and Mr. Debabrata Biswas are the three full-time teachers in charge at the moment in the Department of Philosophy. It currently has a total of 07 students enrolled in Honours and 84 students enrolled in Program Philosophy.

The Department of Philosophy maintains academic excellence, innovative teaching, and student motivation by hosting an annual students' seminar, engaging in creative activity through the Transcreation Club, supplementing classroom teaching with films and other audio-visual aids, educational excursions, and participating actively in the College's co-curricular and extra-curricular programmes in general.

The Philosophy Department has certain short- and long-term goals and dreams. Dr. Gauranga Das, Assistant Professor, HO D, Dept. of Philosophy, currently leads
