Katie Holmes Shares Emotional Tribute to Dawson’s Creek Co-Star Obi Ndefo!

Katie Holmes is mourning the loss of her Dawson’s Creek co-star, Obi Ndefo, who passed away at the age of 51.

Ndefo’s sister announced his death on Saturday (August 31), writing in a heartfelt Facebook post, “Heartbroken at the loss of my younger brother and knowing he’s finally at peace.” The cause of death was not disclosed.

Ndefo played Bodie Wells, the brother-in-law of Holmes’s character, Joey Potter, in the beloved teen drama Dawson’s Creek from 1998 to 2002. The show, set in the fictional town of Capeside, Massachusetts, followed the lives of a close-knit group of friends navigating adolescence.

Reflecting on Ndefo’s passing, Holmes took to Instagram, sharing her sadness alongside a tribute photo first posted by fellow Dawson’s Creek star Mary-Margaret Humes. “He was wonderful to work with and such a kind man. I send prayers and grace to his family. Rest in Peace,” Holmes wrote.

Humes, who played Gale Leery in the series, also shared her grief on Instagram:

“These words don’t come easy. It’s hard for me to conceive that you have left us, my dear friend. You always were and always will be a bright shining light.”

She went on to remember Ndefo’s resilience and positive spirit, especially as he faced recent challenges.

“I will cherish all of our messages of love and support to each other over the past few years. Rest in peace sweet warrior,” Humes added.

Ndefo had a long career in television, with roles in popular shows like Angel, The West Wing, Stargate SG-1, and Star Trek: Voyager. His last credited appearance was in a 2021 episode of NCIS: Los Angeles.

In 2019, Ndefo experienced a life-changing hit-and-run accident in Los Angeles, where he lost both of his legs. Despite the tragedy, he maintained a remarkably positive outlook, telling the Los Angeles Times, He said:

“This is just so horrendous what happened to me, why would I compound this by feeling bad about it? There is no other choice for me… my legs are severed. I don’t know how to do this, but I know how to do this.”

Ndefo was also a yoga teacher and the founder of the non-profit organization Arts Alliance for Humanity, which focused on keeping arts education accessible in public schools and communities across Los Angeles.

His impact on both the entertainment world and his local community will be remembered, and his strength and positivity serve as an inspiration to all who knew him.
