A woman recently shared her frustrating experience at a Walmart checkout, where another shopper tried to cut in front of her.
TikTok user Lauren (@lauren1xoxo) posted a video on June 18, recounting the situation that left her asking, “What in the actual [expletive] is wrong with people?”
Lauren explained that she was at Walmart to grab a few items for dinner, and as usual, the store was busy.
Due to the crowd, the store limited self-checkout to those with 10 items or less, forcing Lauren to wait in a regular checkout line with her 14 items.
After patiently waiting about seven or eight minutes, she was finally next in line when a man approached her with an armful of items.

The Exchange: ‘Can I Go in Front of You?’
Lauren noted that it’s generally good manners to let someone with just a couple of items go ahead of you in line. However, this situation was different.
The man, holding a load of items, asked if he could cut in front of her. Lauren suggested he either join the back of the line or use self-checkout.
The man argued that he had 11 items and couldn’t use self-checkout, eventually deciding to push ahead of her without permission.
To make things worse, when the man tried to pay, his card kept declining. He even argued with the cashier before putting some items back, finally managing to pay for $17 worth of goods.
“Why do people act like that?” Lauren vented at the end of her video. “If you think it’s okay to behave this way, I’m here to tell you it is absolutely not. That’s my rant. Thanks for listening.”

Viewers React: ‘I Would Have Taken His Stuff Home’
Lauren’s video quickly gained traction, amassing over 281,000 views. Many viewers shared their thoughts on the man’s behavior and what they would have done in her situation.
One commenter said, “I would have paid for his things… THEN TOOK THEM HOME WITH ME.” Another suggested:
“He was probably waiting for someone behind him to step up and pay for it. I also think the checker should have stepped in and said, ‘No, you need to grab your things and go to the back of the line.’”
A third viewer reflected, “After working in customer service, I’ve realized most people think they’re the main character in this existence, and their wants and needs are all that matter.”

Is Walmart Limiting Self-Checkout?
It turns out Walmart is indeed tightening its self-checkout policies. According to an April article from CBS, Walmart and other major retailers are reconsidering their approach to self-checkout, including limiting it to customers with 10 items or fewer.
This encounter serves as a reminder of the importance of patience and respect in shared spaces like a busy Walmart checkout line.
